Be Creative in Designing the Deck
In the real world, many houses are designed by architects, who are paid to visualize and draw according to their clients’ specifications. There are actually a lot of magazines that feature house designs. In fact, it is easy to spot the latest fashionable house design. Just get a bunch of these magazines and look for common designs and fixtures on the featured houses, and that is it.
The Coming Trend
The great thing about people today is that they are finally waking up from the dull dream that houses are square buildings with triangular roofs as well as a few potted plants for variety’s sake.
They are starting to revisit the past house designs to see if these would be good for their new homes. Take for example the lanai. The lanai is not an integral part of houses in many countries, but today, nearly every new house has one.
Consider the decks for instance. In the past, decks were just designed in one simple way, which is a set of wooden planks that run from one end of the house to another in a straight boring line. Remember how terraces became the in-thing for houses way back years ago?
Today, decks are the in-thing. But there is a catch in this. The neighbor, the neighbor’s neighbor, and the neighbor’s neighbor to the 4th power know about this too. This creates the unhealthy atmosphere where one family ends up believing that their neighbor is copying their idea of a deck for their own.
How to Design Special Decks
The easiest way of picking great deck design is through the magazines. There are a wide variety of unusual decks to be tried. One of these is the deck inside a pond style. In this instance, the deck is a group of circular wooden planks cemented inside a shallow man-made pond. It gives the impression that the deck is composed of floating wood islands.
Some decks even have small fountains in it though people who decide to do this must make sure that they buy special water-resistant wood, while others have built in wooden beds as their decks are also used for relaxing and massages. In one design, the owners of the house even used their wide deck as a shelter for their outdoor sauna.
Hammocks can also be slung on the decks just to break away from tradition of slinging hammocks on trees. Some deck designs are even a mixture of terrace/patio/deck that overlooks a great garden. Some people also used their decks as places to hang their ornamental flowers.
As decks are naturally windy places as these are open-aired, orchids can love being placed there. Owners can also make their decks look better by adding an open-sided pavilion-like tent over it. But the best and easiest to achieve of all designs is the location itself. Turn the surroundings around the deck into a beautiful garden.
The fact of the matter is that decks are only half as beautiful without the added flair and magnificence of its surroundings.
